Numerous studies regarding the benefits of coconut oil have come out over the years, with some showing that adding virgin coconut oil (VCO) to your diet can help boost your metabolism and reduce belly fat. VCO is also considered a great beauty hack because of its use in hair and skin care.
Most people suggest that you start with one teaspoon a day and gradually increase your intake to two tablespoons per day, as this is considered to be the most effective amount. However, not everyone enjoys taking VCO as it is. If you can do it, then go for it! If not, there are other ways to include VCO in your daily diet. In this post, we’ll focus on some ways to introduce VCO into your diet in order to reap its health benefits.
In your coffee. Can’t function without your daily dose of caffeine? Try adding a teaspoon of VCO in your cup. You have to blend the oil in well so that it emulsifies, creating a nice and creamy consistency. Not only does this taste great - it also gives you an extra dose of energy!
In whatever you’re baking. Did you know that VCO can be used as a substitute for butter? Well now you do! Try it out the next time you want to bake a batch of cookies or brownies. Check how much butter is needed for your recipe and just replace that with the same amount of VCO e.g. 1 tablespoon of butter = 1 tablespoon VCO.
As a spread. Since VCO can be used instead of butter, it’s only logical that you can spread it on your bread too! Try making a Honey “Butter” spread using ¼ cup raw honey and ¼ cup VCO. Place the ingredients in a food processor on high for about one minute. Be careful not to blend the mixture too much, as the VCO might separate from the honey. Once the mixture is smooth, you can transfer it to a jar. You can even add some spices to enhance the flavor, such as cinnamon or nutmeg.
We hope you have fun introducing VCO into your diet! Tell us how it goes and feel free to share other recipes you’ve tried with us!
